Chelsea

We have a new little girl; her name is Chelsea, and she's a keeper.  Chelsea came to us after having been abandoned along with her two brothers.  Her brothers went to another rescue, and Chelsea came to us.  She was skinny, hyper, flea infested and had worms.
Our guess is a beagle-pointer mix.  Look at her face...pure beagle.  However, she has long legs, and does a perfect point when she gets a whiff of something.  Her favorite things to do are chase Sami and dig up the yard with Bear.  And when I say dig...I mean did.  She also likes to escape from the yard and go in search of adventure and new smells.  Yep...she's an escape artist.
Look at that face!!  She has been so good.  She loves her crate and has not once peed or pooped in it.  That, my friends, is amazing.  She also loves the doggy bed, and cuddling with her foster family.  She likes nothing more than to cuddle up and gnaw on your fingers or toes.  Yes...she is a teething machine!!
If you know of anyone who might be interested in Chelsea...aka "Little Bit" of "Puppy" please have them fill out an application or contact me!!

Biscuit and Luke...then and now

Biscuit and Luke were our first fosters, and they were big balls of fluff.  We thought that no doubt Biscuit had some Great Pyrenees and Luke some Golden.

Here is a recent picture of Luke...he is the one on the right in the puppy picture by the way!

Biscuit's new family ran a DNA panel on him, and he came out quite the interesting mix...

Biscuit is a Chow Chow, Newfoundland, Schipperke Mix
Hard to believe, and we have to assume that Luke has the same genetics, though there is always the chance that they had different fathers...
AMAZING how genetics can create such amazing animals!!

Like FLUFF...but SCRUFF

Okay, let's be honest...the dog's name is Claira Belle.  That lasted...oh, about til I got her home.  We started calling her "Scruff" and that has been her name ever since.

This little bundle of hyperactivity came from the Union County Flea Market.  One of our fosters saw litters upon litters of puppies smushed into small crates and left to swelter in the heat without water.  She bought Scruff to get her out, and within 2 weeks she and our owner had ALL LIVE ANIMAL sales BANNED!!

It looks like I have found a home for the little girl...I will be doing the home visit tomorrow.  Wish us luck!!

Introducing Magic Fluff

Okay...his official name is "Magic."  My girls started calling him "Big Fluff", though...because he is, indeed, a BIG OLD FLUFF!!!  My husband calls him "Fluff the MAGIC dragon."  I call him "Magic Fluff."  There is no doubt the animals in my house must be confused as to what their names are...

Magic came to us from Scotland County Animal Shelter, and he has a brother named Duncan who is being fostered elsewhere.  Magic came covered in fleas and with horrible skin issues.  We have given him oatmeal baths and treated the flea issues, and he is slowly but surely coming around.  The first two days we had him he basically slept all day, but now that he is rested up, feeling a little better, and no longer flea infested, he is starting to play and enjoy his time in a home with friends to play with (Bear and Sami).

Anyone interested in Magic should fill out an application at http://www.fureverangelsanimalrescue.com/AvailableDogs.html and send it to me at swellman@carolina.rr.com

Ahhhhh....the Fu-Bear

Sweet Fuji is now named "Bear" or "Fu-Bear" and he is staying with us.  Yep...we made the final decision yesterday to keep him as OUR new family member.  We also ran DNA on him and in addition to mom being a Husky/Shepherd mix dad is a full Golden Retriever.  Who'd have thought?!?  Welcome little man.  (Little...HA!  He weighs in at over 30 pounds at 14 weeks!!)

Sophie is now named "Pepper" and she and McKinley have moved in with one of my friends down the street.  The girls and Bear can get together anytime they want!  Hooray!!

The Mountains!!

We have 3 new foster babies...
Fuji

McKinley

Sophie

All our new babies have been named for mountains.  (There is the San Sophia mountain range).  Each of them has his or her own personality.  Fuji is the only boy; he is a total lapdog...even though he already weighs 13 1/2 pounds at 7 1/2 weeks.  He is a total love bug.

McKinley is the ALPHA.  McKinley starts snapping and nipping at Sami and doesn't let up...she doesn't back down at all!!

Sophie.  Sophie is coming to life as second in command now.  She, like Fuji, loves a good cuddle.

Mama is a shepherd/husky mix.  Dad is unknown.  We got them on Sunday, 1/26.

Taco and Bella Have a Home

I am so excited!! Taco and Belle have a new home in Greensboro, NC!!  Yes!  My babies got to stay together!  I LOVE that they get to stay with each other, as they love each other so much, and they are so good with each other.  Their new mommy took one look at them and burst into tears...I knew then she had to have them!!

Miss you, babies!!  But I know you have an awesome new home!!

Taco Bella

Taco and Belle/a (Scot and I call her Bella, the kids call her Belle) are doing great.  I will tell you straight out that I have never been a small dog person, and certainly not a Chihuahua person.  These two have changed that.  The two of them are awesome.  They are not purebred Chis...that much is for sure.  If I had to venture a guess I'd say they have some Corgi in them...they have the shortest little legs.  However, they are much too big at this point to be Chis.  They are both around 4 pounds, and if they were pure Chis they would top out at 6...the vet thinks Taco and Belle will be closer to 20 pounds each.

For tiny little things they have BIG personalities.  They play HARD when they are awake...with us, with Sami, with each other.  When they get tired they run to the nearest human and paw at their legs til they are picked up and then they IMEEDIATELY close their eyes and fall asleep on us.  Scot swears Bella has pit bull in her...she grabs hold of things/fingers/bones and doesn't let go...and shakes shakes shakes.  They are like little squirrels running around the house...we have to be careful when they are on the loose b/c they LOVE to get underfoot!!

I have a couple of interested applicants...and one wants both of them!  I hope it works out...I know they would be so happy to stay together!!  <3

Sweet little Belle.  I will tell you now that we are not small dog people...and these babies are small...both about 2 pounds each.  The fact that they are so small, though, makes them that much more helpless seeming.  They just need help with so much.  Our deck has two steps, and these poor pups can get down them, and up one, but the second is higher, and they get stuck halfway up to the door.  Someone has to help them come into the house.  The jump and hop around like little mechanical or wind up toys more than dogs.

Are we small dog people?  No.  However, we see now the appeal of the small lapdog.  They want to be snuggled up on a lap all the time.  They are tiny and feel safe when with someone.

We Got New Puppies Yesterday!!

Yesterday morning at 10 a.m. we had new puppies delivered to our door.
Belle and Taco.  Or, Taco Belle.

These little 7 week old Chihuahua puppies have been living in a shed in their owner's backyard.  A shed.  Chihuahua puppies.  Chihuahuas huddle and shake and shiver in 70 degree weather; a shed is certainly not appropriate.  I will give the owner this very small amount of credit, however...she DID allow the rescue to swoop in and take them away from the cold, dark shed.

As soon as we got them the girls grabbed them up...and we immediately saw that they had fleas.  Their bellies were also swollen as can be with worms.  Ick.  The vet was completely booked, but I was able to go over and pick up some dewormer which they desperately needed, and they both got baths in Dawn dishwashing soap.  They were NOT fans of the bath, and sadly they will need another today.  We got a lot of the fleas, but not all of them.

Within hours of the wormer they had roundworms coming out in every poop.  That sent the girls screaming in disgust and horror.  It WAS pretty gross, but most puppies have worms...these just appeared to have lots.

I think they spent the majority of their short lives huddled up for warmth.  Their walking skills left a lot to be desired when they came into the house (the hardwood floors didn't help this either!!  Taco kept doing the splits when he would stop moving b/c his legs just slid out from under him!!)

Belle didn't do much but sleep.  And sleep.  Even today she is sleeping a lot, but she had a big burst of energy this morning so I am feeling better about her.  They both are eating like little piggies, and are right now curled up in front of the fireplace warm and happy.  This is like taking care of little squirrels.  They are just these tiny little puppies...but already they are following us around like the others, and have decided we are the BEST. FAMILY. EVER!!
